My Projects:

Pound cake

The Church Lady Cake documentary project (work in progress)
A documentary featuring first person stories about church, bake sales and the women [and on occasion men] who were/are part of a divine tradition – making cakes from scratch. One story features Johari Rashad, a Seventh Day Adventist church lady who carries a suitcase of her homemade pound cakes to her friends in New Orleans during Mardi Gras; her first trip to the crecent city since Hurricaine Katrina.

Ida B Wells Iola's Letter (play)
...based on the events that transformed Ida B. Wells from a journalist to a staunch anti-lynching activist in Memphis, Tennesse at the end of the 19th century. Iola's Letter received nine staged performances at Howard University with readings at the Kennedy Center and Source Theatre in Washington, DC. The play is published in the anthology Strange Fruit: Plays On Lynching By American Women edited by Kathy A. Perkins and Judith L. Stephens (Indiana University Press). An excellent project for high school and college performers/audiences, studies in American history, race relations, African American history, and the lives of great American women.
