Iola's Letter (play) ...based on the events that transformed Ida B. Wells from a journalist to a staunch anti-lynching activist in Memphis, Tennesse at the end of the 19th century. Iola's Letter received nine staged performances at Howard University with readings at the Kennedy Center and Source Theatre in Washington, DC. The play is published in the anthology Strange Fruit: Plays On Lynching By American Women edited by Kathy A. Perkins and Judith L. Stephens (Indiana University Press). An excellent project for high school and college performers/audiences, studies in American history, race relations, African American history, and the lives of great American women. |
